The trees of the Beth luis nionn, the Celtic tree calendar/alphabet. Each tree represents a month of the year, or significant date and a letter in the ogham alphabet. Midsummer is at the bottom of the picture midwinter at the top.
From the top, clockwise:
birch, rowan, ash, alder (with gorse for spring equinox below), willow, hawthorn / blackthorn, oak (with heather below for summer solstice),holly, hazel, apple, vine, white poplar (autumn equinox), ivy, reed/water elder, elder, silver fir, yew (winter solstice).
Birch, Rowan, Ash, Alder, Willow, Hawthorn, Oak, Holly, Hazel, Vine, Ivy, Reed/water elder and Elder represent 13 lunar months.
The sun is a ring of light moving past each tree in turn. Roots are important, but often overlooked.
